Backstage of Budapest Select runway show at MFW – by Tomasz Bielka

On the catwalk, the models are barely a few minutes. What happens behind the scenes? Fashion shows are more theater than a simple presentation. The preparations for them are truly operatic. See for yourself in the example of one of the spring/summer 23 collections from Fashion Week in Milan. First in the official press photos, and later in our photos and video from the backstage

This year’s Fashion Week in Milan was dominated by a spectacle, because rather than a regular show, for the 70th anniversary of the Moncler brand. It was attended by hundreds of actors – extras who filled the entire square in front of the famous cathedral dressed in identical white suits. Rehearsals for the choreography and preparation of the equipment had been going on for days beforehand. The lighting itself was brought in dozens of large containers. However, “ordinary” shows are also a veritable fever behind the scenes. We saw this once again when we visited the backstage of the show of the umbrella brand of Hungarian designers Budapest Select. The brand is a permanent resident of Milan Fashion Week.

If the show takes place at noon, at 9:00 preparations are in full swing. Dozens of hairdressers, hair and make-up artists, service workers and, of course, models and designers. Among this crowd there are ubiquitous media representatives with cameras and camcorders, following every move of the participants in this commotion. People are by no means avoiding the flashbulbs, rather busily reporting on their activities on their own and their company’s social media profiles. It seems that just stepping out onto the catwalk is a mere formality to seal another performance and rung in the career. It is only on the backstage that one can understand why people who achieve success in this industry fully deserve the success of the company as well.
