Fashion design in a few words – what is it, what opportunities does it offer, what most people don’t know about it?
It is a whole process that begins with gathering inspiration. You can look for them under a given theme, or develop your own idea, which still requires additional stimuli. We pull from these inspirations what we will be able to use the most and proceed to the drawing stage. Sometimes by hand – with crayons, markers, sometimes with a tablet. The next stage is the search for fabrics, materials. Sewing can be done by yourself, if you can do it, or you can have tailors do it, if it is a larger production. Then you need to show the result of your work by doing a photo shoot. Designing is a very creative process that requires a bit of madness.
Passion vs. work – the things you enjoy most vs. the challenges of making a living in fashion?
The real satisfaction when you see the results not on the hanger, but on the person. You can see how it all moves, interacts with each other and starts to live.
Your fashion education – where did you learn to design and how do you recall it?
We both studied at the School of Artistic Fashion Design at the Krakow Art Schools. A very good and demanding school and a study that lasted 2.5 years. We studied in absentia and it required us to sacrifice a lot of time in the evenings, as we are people who did something besides studying. But we have no regrets and recommend this school to those planning art education.
Fashion promotion – how do you show your designs online?
For us as designers who have recently graduated, fashion shows are also important, such as our graduation show this year, which took place at the Fabryczna conference center, during Cracow Fashion Week.
The fashion world in Krakow – what is good in our city and what is still missing?
Polish trade magazines should take more interest in young designers, because when we browse through the top fashion magazines, they very rarely mention graduates or newcomers awarded during fashion weeks. This is practically not mentioned, and these magazines have a large audience and it would be good to appear in them. We try to publish and share a lot on the Internet, but we would like to be more visible in the major magazines, if only in the context of fashion events.
