Fashion design in a few words – what is it, what opportunities does it offer, what most people don’t know about it?
Yes, designing requires madness, but also patience. We are constantly looking for different solutions, and not only at the stage of inspiration but at the stage of creating the form, choosing cuts, stitches, machines. It is a process that goes on all the time. We learn and learn lessons all the time – one project consists of 4-5 prototypes that we create.
Passion vs. work – the things you enjoy most vs. the challenges of making a living in fashion?
What I enjoy most is the end result – when I don’t have to sit on a project anymore, when I see that there is a good reception and someone wants to walk in it and it’s already tangible, when people watch what has been created. This is the culmination of our work.
Your fashion education – where did you learn to design and how do you recall it?
Few universities in Poland offer clothing design as a major – for example, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow we don’t have such an opportunity. Of similar universities, I think the closest we have is Lodz.
Fashion promotion – how do you show your designs online?
Now it is mainly the Internet. Instagram has become a platform where both designers and ordinary people promote fashion and their styles. Also, Tik-Tok has an increasingly important role, as people are looking for moving audiovisual forms that also allow them to show the creative process itself and what is being done around them.
Attending a fashion show allows you to get new insights, especially from people outside the industry. Fashion events in Poland are just now starting to develop and become more prestigious and more is starting to happen in the fashion world, which is great.
